Talk Voice
Our mission for 2024 is the speaking voice
We all need a working voice to communicate effectively. We tend to take it for granted – until something goes wrong. Voice loss and strain can have a devastating impact on work, family life and relationships, education and leisure. Talk Voice is a six-part online lecture series about the speaking voice covering topics such as the impact of serious life events or illness on the voice, how to best care of your voice and improve vocal function, how to communicate more effectively.
Speakers include Mark Mardell, Polly Evans, Dr. Nikos Spantideas, Dr. Tom Harris, D’Arcy Smith, and many more!

Former BBC broadcasters Mark Mardell and Polly Evans discuss their experience of voice loss and the profound effect this has had on their careers and wellbeing.
Mark Mardell was a journalist and broadcaster of international repute, famed for his work on BBC Radio Four. Parkinson’s disease precipitated the end of his full-time career in broadcasting and has also had a profound effect on his personal life. The loss of power in his speaking voice has left him feeling vulnerable and at times insignificant.
Polly Evans has suffered from a rare neurological condition which has brought her broadcasting career to end. She had the frightening experience of being unable to speak live on air due to her illness and speaks about the rehabilitation voice work she has had to undergo with speech and language therapists and the impact this has had on her personal and professional life.
