Here, Professor McHugh takes us through Bassey’s early years, getting started as a singer, and the creative reinvention needed to stay at the top of her profession for seven decades. Most informatively (from a vocal care and performance perspective), McHugh presents film footage (at 25:00-28:00) of Bassey talking poignantly of her voice loss, retraining and triumphant return to glorious vocal form.
